Medical Desensitisation Program
For many children, the ordinary things that keep us healthy can feel overwhelming. Getting nails cut. Brushing teeth. A haircut. A blood test. A visit to the doctor or the dentist. When these moments are distressing, they often get put off, and that puts your child's health and comfort at risk.
Medical desensitisation is a short term, gentle programme that supports your child to tolerate and take part in these everyday care routines, one small step at a time, with choice and comfort at the centre. We never push and we never shame.
Helping your Super Kid cope with the everyday care that keeps them healthy
Who it helps
This programme suits children who find health and self care routines distressing, whether or not they have a diagnosis, including:
Nail cutting, hair brushing and haircuts
Teeth brushing and dental visits
Blood tests, needles and medical appointments
Taking medicine
The sensory side of self care
How it works
We start by understanding what your child finds hard and why, then break the routine into small, achievable steps. Working with you, we build your child's comfort gradually and at their pace, pairing each step with choice, predictability and the things your child enjoys.
The programme is short term with clear goals, usually supported by parent coaching so you can carry the steps into daily life.
